My 3rd Child is leaving home.

Someone is coming to buy my portable dishwasher this afternoon. In fact it’s being picked up at 1pm so I won’t be able to say goodbye. I’m sad, I love my dishwasher. It has nice soft-touch digital buttons. It’s so pretty and still really new.

We had a dishwasher when Max was a baby and then we moved to a house without one when Max was 10mos old. That sucked!

I ran out and bought a portable when I was 3 months pregnant with Luc. I couldn’t bear the thought of washing all the bottles by hand every day. I spent over $500 after tax and delivery. It’s a great machine. I’m bummed that we can’t take it with us. Our new house has a built-in that isn’t as groovy. Although the idea of a built-in is nice, it’s older and not as pretty. I feel like I’m leaving behind the family pet. HAHA!

As geeky as my sad story sounds, I can top it. When I was in junior high and early high school, if I was depressed, my Dad would take me to Sears and let me hang out in the Major Household Appliances. It cheered me up every time!

This dishwasher is the first appliance that I pick out and purchased myself…Well, there was the microwave but that’s not nearly as exciting.

Anyway, I’m bummed. But don’t cry for me! I’m going to move on. I think I’m going to start lobbying for a new fridge!

It's worth it in the end

I know now why we’ve been in Rodeo for almost 5 years…Moving sucks ass. I’m tired of the limbo we’ve been in for the past couple of years…. knowing we’ve wanted out but waiting for the “right time”. We could have gone on like that for years…. Now we’ve said, “Fuck it, we’re out!”

Only 17 more nights in our sweet little house. 18 days of packing and cleaning and emptying out the fridge. (I haven’t seen the back of the freezer in over a year.) I feel like I’m rationing out the groceries. “Just eat PBJ’s for lunch when your hot lunch tickets run out. I don’t wanna buy lunchmeat and pack it down to the new house.” HUH?

Moving was way easier when Max was small and an only child. He had no opinions and ate whatever we gave him. And had a lot less shit to move! DUUDE this kid has so much stuff! He has his own fucking studio to pack, on top of his and Luc’s bedroom and all the freakin toys!

The great thing is that besides becoming a crazed, psycho relocating, bitch over the next couple weeks I can add hormones to the list. If you pray…. pray for the men in my house.

It’ll be over soon enough. We just need to get outta here and move on to the next phase.

I can’t wait to be unpacked in the new place…for Max & Luc to settled and happy in their school and daycare…. to have windows with screens on them…to do laundry without worrying about socks falling in the ground water on the basement floor…. to be able to make toast & heat coffee in the microwave while the dryer is on and not blow a circuit…. to sip Mojitos by the pool!!! Above all, I can’t wait to say that I’ve taken a crap in all 3 of my toilets.

St. Patricks Day

I’m sitting here at work dying for this day to be over. I keep thinking about the Corned Beef in the crock pot at home. This is a great thing. We haven’t had a “real meal” on a weeknight in a month and it’ll be almost done when I get home…. Just 10 minutes for the Veggies! YAY! What an easy evening!!!

But this one small detail just popped in my head….Last night Max said, “OOOH, Maybe the Leprechauns will come tomorrow!” CRAP!!! This shit started a couple of years ago when Max was in preschool. We had just got in the door and while I was getting dinner ready I saw that he was searching all over the house for something….

“Coop?! What are you looking for?”

“Lauren said that the Leprechauns left a treasure in her shoe this morning!”

That’s just fucking great! I tried telling him that he must have misheard Lauren, because Leprechauns steal gold not give it. He didn’t buy it at all. I could have killed this evil little girl and her damn parents!!! I started panicking when I realized that I had to choke down my urge to crush his little fantasy…If I told him that there were no such things as Leprechauns then that would lead to a conversation about the Easter Bunny and Santa. Don’t get me wrong… I hate the idea of an invisible fat man in a red suit taking credit for the gifts that I buy my kids. I also highly doubt that when Jesus rose from the dead he ran into a little bunny hiding eggs and asked for a piece chocolate… But Max’s sweet, innocent little face kept me from being so cruel. (He can acquire his own cynicism later.)

Instead, I told him to go check his room for treasure, while I snuck into my room and got out an old silver and gold, hideous looking, jingle ball pendant from my jewelry box and some change from my dresser. I then ran out to the front room and dumped the change in one of his hats and the pendant in his Hulk Hand glove. I had a lot of explaining to do when Mike got home and Max yelled. “Daddy! Look at what the Leprechauns left for me!” He was so happy…it was the cutest thing. Even though I was very pleased with myself…I was agonizing over the new tradition that I had created.

So today I’m trying to think of what kind of treasure the Leprechauns might leave for Max…. Luckily Max is 6½ and I probably only have a year or so of this stuff left with him….at which point I’ll be telling him not to ruin it for his brother.
